ROUND VALLEY RESERVOIR PROGRESS UPDATE: 03/26/20
The first two component projects of the Round Valley Project, Abutment Grouting at the North and South Dams, and Dredging of the Intake Channel at the South Dam Tower, are now complete.
As of this date, construction on the final project, Earthen Dam Rehabilitation and Ancillary Work, is proceeding as scheduled. Workers are implementing additional safety and social distancing measures as recommended through various agencies. Any changes to the construction schedule will be posted here.
Over the next few weeks, the public may see drill rigs, earth moving and site clearing equipment working around the reservoir as staging areas are prepared, soil erosion and sediment control features are constructed, dewatering wells are installed, and new instrumentation is installed. New fencing and gates are being installed as well. This work will not restrict the public’s use of the reservoir.
The Cushetunk (red) trail has been permanently re-routed in the vicinity of the South Dam (near Molasses Hill Rd). Please take note of the new route shown on the map below, and look for new signage along the trail to guide you on the new route. Please remain on the new route as it crosses through the Round Valley Youth Center, which is considered private property.
In association with work at the Dike, a hose has been laid across County Route 629 to bring water to the work area from the Reservoir near the Canoe/Kayak launch. A “speed bump” has been installed over the hose to protect it. Please take caution when driving in this area.
The segment of County Route 629 that parallels the Reservoir between Old Mountain Road and the Boat Launching area will be closed within the next two weeks. The road closure duration is currently expected to be at least one year.
The water body of the reservoir will remain open during construction, as will the boat launches and recreation area. Visitors should not walk along the reservoir’s edge as the lowered water level has exposed mud that is dangerous to walk on. Visitors should observe all posted signage and avoid construction areas.
